LAPD Training Victory!!!

Section 831.0 of the California Penal Code requires that every custodial officer (commonly know as jailers) receive certified training which includes Laws and Arrest and report writing. Local 777 has been working since 1999 to bring the Department into compliance with the Penal Code. Only after filling the City Council Chambers on numerous occasions with employees from many city departments, pressuring the City Attorneys’ office and threatening a civil lawsuit did the Police Department reluctantly begin sending Local 777 members to training.

On February 8, 2002 the first class of students finished the training. The Department has plans to send 15 students per class twice a month until the department is in compliance.

Officers Lemuel Fleming and David Yuen

“It was a hard fought battle but it is time that the Department complies with the law.” said leader David Yuen who is a second level jail supervisor.

According to Canadian Feed the Children, the richest 358 people in the world have a net worth equal to the combined annual income of the poorest 2.3 billion.
