On April 10, 2001, Tom Carnes, was singled out for special praise by the Board of Supervisors for the volunteer work he has been doing with youth in need at the Twin Pines Ranch Auxiliary.

Tom is a Local 777 elected Officer, holding the position of Auditor.

Women’s History Month Celebration!

On March 13, Local 777 members celebrated Women’s History Month with a film on the role of women in the workforce, food, great speakers, and prizes! We would like to particularly thank: speakers Lupe Gallardo, Business Manager, LIUNA Local 652; Shari Newman, Business Manager, PEDC; Lorna Ward, Local 777 Vice-President; Peg Holcomb, Local 777 Executive Board Member; and Local 777 Staff Member Kathie Delgado.

April 21 Steward Training A Big Success!

The Annual Riverside Steward Training was enthusiastically embraced by those in attendance. Training included: a speaker from P.E.R.S.; Tom Sproal, County Safety Officer and Dave Rich, Safety Coordinator, discussed Workplace Violence.; LIUNA International Representative Pat Hallahan on your right to file Unfair Labor Practice charges with the Public Employment Relations Board beginning July 1st; Kathie Delgado on our May 23 and 24 Lobby Day efforts to try and get Assembly Bill 616 passed; and Business Manager Fred Lowe on the History of the Meyers-Milias-Brown Act. Our Annual Los Angeles Training will take place in October and we will announce a date in the next Organizer.

We asked early enough and we scored! We were able to buy a block of tickets behind home plate in the Inner Reserved Section for a Saturday, July 7, 1:05 p.m. day game against the Seattle Mariners—an Interleague Game! Tickets cost $15 each and once they are going, going, they will be gone! All members will receive a free Dodger Blue Proud Union Member T-shirt. Max Warren Contributions Recognized

At the end of January the Laborers’ held their Annual Salute Dinner and, for the first time in their history, saluted someone within LIUNA. Breaking with tradition could only happen if that someone was very special and, of course, that person is—Max Warren, LIUNA Organizing Director. In March the LIUNA Legislative Department in Sacramento honored Max for his many contributions, and many leading politicians attended, including Governor Davis, pictured with Local 777 Representative Steven Belhumeur.
