he Laborers' International Union of North America was founded in 1903 and has grown to represent over 750,000 members in the United States and Canada. There are over 150,000 public employees represented by LIUNA in every sector imaginable.

LIUNA is the largest union representing Indian Health Services in the Federal Sector. The Mailhandlers in the postal sector are represented by LIUNA. Cities in California like Los Angeles and San Francisco have had relationships with LIUNA since the 1930's, as have others throughout the United States, like Phoenix.

School employees and higher education employees are also heavily represented by LIUNA. In California, LIUNA represents over 1,500 Academic Professionals of California, the Counselors that do the advising in the California State University System. LIUNA also represents the 800 skilled craft employees in the CSU system.

Classified school employees are also represented by LIUNA throughout California and the United States and Canada. The classified employees in the Carlsbad Unified School District in Southern California, and Sierra College in Northern California are just two examples.

Local 777 was chartered and came into existence in 1993 with the City of Indio becoming the founding public agency, representing at the time about 57 employees. Local 777 has since grown, now representing over 8,000 members.

Public agencies now include: Indio, La Quinta, Lake Elsinore, Riverside County, Los Angeles, Pasadena, Sierra Madre, Downey -– general employees, Downey -– non-sworn auxiliary employees, Newport Beach, Superior Court of California -– County of Riverside, Alhambra and Rubidoux Community Services District.

Your Right to Representation

If you are called into a meeting with management, you have the RIGHT to know the subject of the meeting. If you REASONABLY BELIEVE the meeting could lead to discipline, you have the RIGHT to representation by LIUNA LOCAL 777. You MUST ask for that right. Management does NOT have to offer it to you. You have the right to consult with your union representative before the meeting. When in doubt call your LIUNA Local 777 representative.
